Talk about a copycat league.
One night after using a strong middle frame to their advantage, the Victoria Grizzlies turned the tables on the Prince George Spruce Kings.
A five-goal second period was more than enough for the Grizzlies to sink their claws into the Spruce Kings, coasting to an easy 6-1 victory Saturday night in front 1,098 fans at The Q Centre.
Victoria held a 1-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes courtesy of Thomas Molson. Then in the second, the hosts snowed under the Spruce Kings outshooting them by a 27-8 margin all while Daniel D’Alessandro, Reegan Hiscock, Landon Mackie, Sam Ward and Finn Kalay lit the lamp on netminder Ryder Green.
Brock Cummings scored the lone goal for PG.
Spruce Kings defenceman Isaac Holt was once again on the wrong side of the law receiving a five-minute major for cross checking, two minutes for instigating, five for fighting and a game misconduct.
Former Vancouver Giants forward Julien Cull picked up similar penalties for Victoria.
The Grizzlies out shot the Spruce Kings 42-27 and went 2-for-5 on the power-play while PG was 0-for-5.
Oliver Auyeung-Ashton collected a 26-save victory for Victory.
It was a nightmare scenario for PG (13-20-3-1), who once again found themselves eight points back of the last playoff spot in the Coastal Conference trailing both the Langley Rivermen and Nanaimo Clippers.
Nanaimo edged Alberni Valley 3-2 in a shootout while the Rivermen exercised overtime to ensure a 5-4 victory against the Chilliwack Chiefs.
The Spruce Kings host the Coquitlam Express Friday (7pm) and Saturday (6pm) at the Kopar Memorial Arena.
