Move over snow, wind is the star of the show this weekend

The Prince George area is shifting away from the snowy weather as we get to the crux of the coldsnap.

Between 10 to 14 centimetres of snow fell in the area yesterday (Friday) and into this morning, and with the arctic air rolling in, any further snowfall will be unlikely.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Philippe-Alain Bergeron says wind will make the next couple days feel colder.

“You have to be very careful if you’re outside and to cover up, because any exposed skin can get frostbite within a short period.”

“Even during the day, of course it eases a bit, but we do have the winds all day tomorrow. The temperature of course is more moderate, although -19, combined with the wind, that still generates at -30.”

Bergeron says by early next week, winds should start to gradually ease, though temperatures won’t see any notable changes.

Looking to early tomorrow morning, the windchill could bring temperatures to the -40 to -42 range, and an extreme cold warning may be issued if that lasts beyond two hours.

More information about the forecast can be found on Environment Canada’s website here.
