Winter paddleboarding in Prince George garnering more attention

There’s a bit more talk around Prince George about winter paddleboarding, following Tourism PG’s latest adventure video.

Certified Stand-Up Paddle Instructor, Kimberley Kenyon began this sport when the idea was sparked from a photographer, and after speaking with other paddlers and Search and Rescue, she gave it a shot.

Though Kenyon has been able to partake in the chilly sport, she says the extra attention calls for more education.

“I know my level of paddling. I paddle white water in the summer time, so I’m paddling class 2, 3, 4 rapids. I have very good vessel control.”

“I don’t personally worry about falling off, so whenever I hear about other people talking about it, it puts a little bit of a spook in me, and I’m like ‘ok well, if people wanna know, reach out to me, ask questions. Let’s get educated.”

Kenyon says the extra attention also gets her excited, because if people want to do this, there’s a trajectory to potentially get out on the water in the winter.

The Tourism PG video has also seen a wide range of reactions to winter paddleboarding, with some calling Kenyon “irresponsible”, which she says is probably the furthest thing away from who she is.

She notes that others have been supportive, with some showing interest in joining.

More information and how to get in contact with Kenyon can be found on her website here.
