Independent Investigations Office elects not to refer matter involving Mackenzie police to Crown Counsel

BC’s police watchdog has closed their investigation into a police-involved shooting in Mackenzie last June, which left one man deceased.

According to a report from the Independent Investigations Office of BC, no charges will be forwarded for consideration to crown council, clearing all officers of any potential wrongdoing.

At about 2:00pm on Saturday June 1st, the Mackenzie RCMP received a report of a man trying to cash a fraudulent cheque at a bank.

Officers attended and arrested the man.

While escorting him outside, a struggle ensued, and the man reportedly produced a weapon.
