Prince George Cougars gearing up for Indigenous Weekend

The Prince George Cougars will hit the ice to celebrate Indigenous culture this weekend.

The event will have different performances, drummers, singers, vendors, with the players dawning special jersey’s designed by Indigenous artist, Kobe Antoine.

Business Manager, Taylor Dakers says the celebration expanded to two games for more opportunities for performers and vendors.

“We’ve been in contact with Robert Sebastian earlier on through an art giveaway, and he’s involved with the Gitxsan All Clans Dancers, and we’ve got a nice performance planned for them post game,” says Dakers.

“and then every intermission Friday and Saturday is packed with performers.”

Dakers says the event has been extremely powerful, and continued to have a great response since the first year, which also helped grow the event.

He added the Prince George Community and surrounding areas are so supportive of one another, and always happy to find ways to expand it.

With the addition on other First Nations joining the celebration, Dakers says they’ve been seeing a lot more ticket sales from out of town.

The Prince George Cougars will face the Brandon Wheat Kings Friday night at 7:00, and the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night at 6:00pm.

Dakers noted Friday’s game has over 1,000 tickets remaining, with Saturday’s under 1,000.

More information about Indigenous Weekend can be found on the Prince George Cougars Facebook, and game and tickets on their website here.
