One person is dead and another injured following a weekend shooting in Dawson Creek.
According to the RCMP, it happened just after 11pm on Sunday after a report of shots being fired on 102nd Avenue.
Officers located the victim upon arrival and while investigating a second report of shots being fired at a nearby hotel. Another person was found with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
The North District Major Crimes Unit has identified several persons of interest in both investigations – no charges have been laid.
Due to the recent gang violence in the Peace Region, a larger police presence from across the province will be deployed to Dawson Creek.
This will include North District General Investigation Section (NDGIS), Uniformed Gang Enforcement Team (UEGT), E Division Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) and members from surrounding detachments.
“Dawson Creek RCMP will continue conducting dedicated proactive enhanced enforcement initiatives, focusing our efforts on apprehending those responsible for violent and often public offenses. Through proactive policing measures, we are committed to ensuring community safety in the community of Dawson Creek said Inspector Steve McLeod, Operations Officer, North District RCMP.
