PG Blizzard to host Canadian Junior Short Track qualifiers this weekend

The Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club will be hosting some of the best Canadian speed skaters between the ages of 16 and 18 this weekend.

The competition being hosted at Kin 1 will serve as qualifiers for Canada Cup 1 in Sherbrooke and the Canada Cup Junior Final in Calgary.

“It’s very exciting that a national championship is coming back to Prince George after the success of the 2015 Canada Winter Games, and even more exciting that we have a local athlete competing,” said Blizzard Head Coach Taryn Vansickle.

Blizzard skater Pareesa Jones will be competing alongside some of the best in Canada.

Spectators will be welcome at the event, and a schedule will be posted on the PG Blizzard Facebook page.

Additionally, Vansickle, along with fellow Blizzard Coach Sylvia Masich will be headed to Ottawa to take part in the Coaching Association of Canada’s Women and Gender Equality in Coaching Community of Practice and Mentorship Project.

The project will focus on raising awareness, providing education opportunities and practical experiences, accessing expert presenters and training, engaging in monthly meetings and knowledge sharing, developing legacy documentation including policy changes, innovative programs, conference presentations, and publications.
