Unregistered voters and people who are away from their electoral district are running out of time to vote.
People who haven’t received a voter information card in the mail can only have 3 days left to register online or by mail.
Those who are away from home can apply for a special ballot to vote at an Elections Canada office, and can register online, or by mail.
“Voting by mail or at an Elections Canada office are convenient options, particularly for electors who may be travelling,” says Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand. “If you want to vote by mail, apply as soon as possible to allow for transit time and to ensure that your application and then your completed ballot reach us before the deadlines.”
If you don’t currently have a voter information card, you may not be registered to vote in the election.
“for the Federal Election, you must go to the poll that’s associated with your address, so that’s why it’s really important to check your voter information card when you get it, because in many cases, the location of your advance poll will be different than the election-day poll, says Dorothy Sitek with Elections Canada.
Those who have not yet registered to vote need a picture ID and proof of address when registering for a voter information card.
Elections Canada offices will be open from 9 to 9 every day of the long weekend, while advance polls are open from noon to 8.
