PG’s Green off to Junior Biathlon Worlds after clean sweep in qualifiers at Otway

What a week for Prince George’s Moira Green.

The 20-year-old finished first in all three of her Junior races at the 2025 International Biathlon Union (IBU) Regional Event and Biathlon Canada Youth/Junior World Championship Trials, hosted by the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club this week.

“It’s been a really fun week for me, all my friends from high school have come, so that’s really special, my parents are here too, so it’s been a really special week of racing for me, and I’m so glad that I’ve been able to perform like this,” Green said following her mass start race today (Tuesday).

Green won today’s race with a time of 33:29.6, missing two shots on the second and third laps, and just one on the final lap.

It was bit of a comeback win, passing Vilde Boerseth (competing in 22+) on the last lap of the race.

“The fourth lap I was kind of battling with my mind, it’s hard to feel like the race isn’t over yet, it’s absolutely not over to the end, especially today, but it’s so hard not to think that,”

“I was trying so hard to just look at my targets, but I knew both the girls in front of me missed too, so I thought ‘one is fine, one’s no problem’.”

Temperatures were hanging around the one degree mark, and some snow for the start of today’s race.

“It was kind of raining ice at the beginning, that was a bit of a bummer, never seen that, but then it cleared up and it was super nice, super fun,” Green said.

Green finished on top of the Sprint race on Saturday with a time of 24:22.2, and in first in the pursuit race on Sunday with a time of 33:12.8.

Athletes were competing for a spot on the Canadian team for the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships, which will take place in Ostersund, Sweden from February 26th to March 5th.

In that event, Green said she would like to have the best races she can.

“It’s a bit bittersweet, last one, makes me feel a bit old,” she said.

“These races are always so fun, and it’s amazing to see the other athletes and what the sport can be and is like in Europe, so I’m really excited.”
