Operation Red Nose tallied 412 safe rides home during its 2024 campaign.
The safe-ride service saw 16-thousand dollars in donations along with 20-grand of corporate sponsorships – all of it will support youth programs in PG.
Co-Chair Dolly Hilton told MyPGNow.com the volume of parties has gone down since the pandemic and the number of designated driver services has also increased during this time.
“There are a lot of companies who now provide their employees with a safe ride home, usually its shuttle services or it’s a cab certificate. I know one company puts them up in a hotel. So, there are a lot more responsible employers out there.”
Operation Red Nose provided 72 safe rides home during its New Year’s Eve run, which lasted into the wee hours of 2025.
“It was fairly slow in the beginning as quite often we have people who want to go home around nine and do the East New Year’s but this year everybody waited until midnight so we had some teams waiting around until 11:30 and were out until around 3:30.”
“We stayed mainly within the city limits – we went a little way out but not like some of the long rides we had earlier on.”
Hilton noted 89 volunteer teams were utilized over the nine nights Operations Red Nose was available in December.
On New Year’s Eve, 52 volunteers were working to assist party-goers on getting home safely.
Hilton noted a lot of the corporate or in-kind donations saw food provided for their volunteers many of those nights or gift cards. Companies like Driving Force also provided vehicles.
