Prince George Search and Rescue happy calls are on a decreasing trend

Prince George Search and Rescue responded to an average number of calls to close out 2024.

Spokesperson, Dave Merritt says they average anywhere from 30 to 50 calls a year, with this year on the lower end at 31.

“Of those, 15 were mutual aid calls where we go and assist other communities in the province of BC, and 16 of those calls were directly inside our main operating area in and around Prince George.”

While they’re happy calls are decreasing, Merritt says they can’t explain why that is, whether it’s people being better prepared, or thinking they would be charged when they wouldn’t.

He added that even with the low call numbers, they still keep their training hours up.

The team did roughly 2,500 hours of operations and almost 5,100 hours of training.

As we head into the new year, Merritt reminds anyone heading out to play safe in the winter.
