A police dog out of Prince George helped track down a suspect in the Cariboo.
After Quesnel RCMP got a report of a stolen vehicle yesterday (Monday), at 4:44pm, police located the vehicle roughly 40 minutes later at a Wal-Mart parking lot with the driver still in it.
In an attempt to apprehend the driver, the suspect accelerated forward, striking a police vehicle and fleeing at high speeds in a crowded parking lot.
The driver reportedly went off the road at Kersley, fleeing on foot, prompting the Prince George Police Dog Service to conduct a lengthy track.
The 30-year-old man was later found and arrested after a brief struggle in a barricaded shed.
Sergeant Clay Kronebusch said “The suspect is well known to police. He was recently released on conditions for a similar offence that required electronic monitoring, but was found to be breaching his conditions as he removed his ankle monitor shortly after being released.”
Anyone that may have witnessed or has footage of the Wal-Mat parking lot interaction is asked to contact Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
