Tourism Prince George highlighting niche winter activities to boost visitor numbers

Tourism Prince George is looking to spark winter joy with niche activities for the season.

Their latest video showcases fat biking through snowy trails in the community, which they hope will promote tourism in the City.

CEO, Colin Carson says it’s something they’re excited about.

“It’s a huge opportunity. It’s a bit of a niche sport still, but really fat biking is becoming extremely popular across western Canada, and the access to outdoors we have here in Prince George makes it a really desirable place for people to fat bike.”

Other winter activities Carson highlights include snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing that have been great for the community, utilizing trail networks and facilities.

He says the long term goal is for more people to visit and rent equipment, but notes they aren’t there yet.

It’s more likely those who have experience in the activities will visit with their own equipment, though Carson says it’s a starting point to continue diversifying the local economy.

Carson says they plan on showcasing more activities in the community, with a similar video to the fat biking one in the coming months.
