City Council has announced Free Transit for the day of the Federal Election.
On October 19th, buses in the city will be free all day long to make it easier for voters to make it out to the poles as well as encourage more people to vote.
“We don’t want to have cost impede that ability” said Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall. “So with the free transit for those that want to get out and vote, and perhaps couldn’t afford the transit fare, here’s their opportunity.”
Hall says it’s important for government to encourage voting and try to increase the voter turn-out.
“We’d been talking as a council on how we can increase the voter turn-out.” Said Mayor Hall. “We need to get these percentages of people participating in voting starting to climb up.”
He’s also reminding citizens to check their voter cards closely to make sure they attend the right polling station.
