Two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Firearm search warrants led to weapon and drug seizures in Prince George.
RCMP’s Problem Oriented Policing Team and Downtown Safety Unit conducted the searches on the 2600 block of Quince Street on November 29th in response to a vehicle set on fire earlier that day.
Corporal Jennifer Cooper says arrests were made as officers were in the area of Victoria Street and McCullagh Avenue when they observed the arson.
“The suspect was arrested a short distance away as he tried to flee in a waiting taxi with three other passengers.”
“Police officers located a loaded firearm as well as suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and hydromorphone inside the taxi.”
Cooper says locating the firearms and drugs began search warrants at some of the suspects residences, where several high powered firearms and ammunition, and silicone molds appearing to have been used to press drugs into candy-like shapes were found.
Everyone arrested are known to police, with three of the four suspects released pending charge approval by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, and the fourth suspect, 39-year old John Robert Barton Craig, will remain in jail until his next court appearance.
Police said charges were approved against Craig for arson, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property over $5000, fail to comply with probation and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition.
The investigation is ongoing.
