Gas rates to change for Fortis BC customers to kick off 2025

Fortis BC customers across the North will be paying $14.25 more per month on their gas bill starting January 1st.

This marks the first time the crown corporation has raised its rates since January of 2022 and fell the last two years for most customers.

The BC Utilities Commission granted its approval, which will see a 17.5% overall spike in its gas rates.

“We understand that rate changes may be difficult for some of our customers, and we want to assure you that these rate adjustments are aimed at better serving your energy needs.” said Michelle Carman, vice president of customer service and external communications.

“If you have any questions about your bill, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Our dedicated customer service team is here to support you with energy-saving tips and tools available online, answer any billing questions and offer personalized solutions that fit your needs.”

The commission is also reviewing Fortis BC’s 2025 to 2027 Rate Setting Framework.

A decision is expected during the first half of next year as Fortis BC expects to apply for permanent rates later in 2025.
