Snow to cease in Prince George, but rain to follow

There is an end in sight for the snow that’s blanketed Prince George over the past several days, but you may have to swap the cold weather gear for rain gear this week.

Environment Canada has re-upped the snowfall warning for much of the Central and Northern Interior today (Sunday), with 10-15 centimetres expected to fall.

According to Meteorologist Gary Lee, we’re going through the “final shot of it.”

“From yesterday to [this morning] the Prince George area received around 5 to 10 centimetres of snow, some areas of Prince George are reporting 6 to 10,” he said.

Once the snow is done, there’s rain in the forecast for nearly the rest of the week.

“This is basically the same jet stream continuing pushing north right now, the ridge over the northwestern part of North America is a little stronger, it’s trying to push northwards, so that’s why you see the transition,” Lee explained.

As of this morning, Environment Canada’s forecast has highs of up to six degrees this week.

“Temperatures are going to continue to rise throughout [today] all the way until tomorrow morning,” Lee said.

“Tomorrow morning we’ll probably hover around zero to two degrees for Prince George and then tomorrow afternoon, it’s going to stay around four degrees.”

Temperatures will stay steady throughout the week, before dropping back down to zero on Friday.
