The province’s work safety watchdog has fined a pair of Dawson Creek companies a combined $48,000.
It’s following an explosion at an oil and gas facilty in that community, which left two workers injured.
According to inspection reports from WorkSafeBC, Key Energy was welding at a facility operated by Secure Energy Services, a company that specializes in oilfield waste.
WorkSafe says both companies did not take the right precautions prior to welding above a tank that contained flammable chemicals.
Key Energy was fined $6,000 while Secure Energy Services was dinged 42-grand. Workers are now required to be offered proper training, revise risk assessment and safety practices.
Two employees were installing safety chains above the tank at the time of the incident.
Paramedics were called to the 6400 block of Rolla Road transporting the injured workers to a nearby hospital.
