The Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan) has announced funding for projects to boost tourism and outdoor recreation in Northern BC.
“Northern British Columbia is home to world-class tourism attractions that showcase the stunning natural beauty and rich history and culture of our province,” said Minister Responsible for PacifiCan Harjit Sajjan.
“PacifiCan is here to support these organizations as they create memorable experiences for visitors and seize growth opportunities.”
In total, $950,000 is going to five organizations in the North, including three in Prince George.
Tourism Prince George received $250,000 for the renovation of Canada Games Plaza, which includes the open-air skating rink and the container market.
“We are incredibly grateful to PacifiCan for their generous funding, enabling us to enhance our community’s offerings with the renovation of our new Visitor Centre, the development of an open-air container market, and the creation of an all-season ice rink,” said Tourism PG CEO Colin Carson.
“This support reflects their commitment to enriching our local tourism infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the visitor experience in Prince George.”
The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club also received $234,650 for the development of their paved trails, which were recently completed.
“The paved roller ski/biathlon trails have been part of our strategic plan and vision at Caledonia Nordic for over 10 years and it’s amazing to see this vision become a reality in our community,” said Project Manager Kevin Pettersen.
“Being the first purpose-built roller ski/biathlon competition trails in Canada, these paved trails are already attracting interest for both training and competitions from across the province as well as nationally and internationally.”
Additionally, the Alder Hills Golf Course is receiving $250,000 to expand its facilities.
