A strong Russian connection will put the UNBC Timberwolves in a festive mood heading into the Holiday Break.
The dynamic duo of Sveta Boykova and Viktoria Filatova will the T-Wolves to victory on Saturday night completing a weekend sweep of the UBC Okanagan Heat 68-67 in Canada West women’s basketball action.
Filatova scored the winning basket in the dying seconds to put UNBC in the lead. Boykova was a force posting 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Similar to Friday, the Timberwolves spotted a double-digit lead to the Heat in the game’s opening quarter before chipping away at the 12-point deficit in the second half.
UNBC (3-5) also received clutch baskets from its depth players such as Brynn Dergusoff, Amrit Manak, Adiaih Tupas-Singh and, Halle Tiessen.
Lily Pink hooped 18 points in defeat for UBC Okanagan (3-5) while seven other players contributed between four and nine points respectively.
The Timberwolves also win the season series against the Heat taking two of three meetings.
On Friday, Boykova, Filatova and, Manak all enjoyed double-digit performances en route to a 64-55 victory over UBCO.
Filatova was 8-for-12 on field goals while Manak went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc.
Tsuki Tsisuzki tallied a team-high 12 points in defeat for the Heat.
In men’s action, the Timberwolves earned a weekend split against Okanagan falling 84-74 on Friday followed up by a 83-72 win the next night.
During the first half of the double-header UBCO received clutch performances by Jas Dhudwal (16 points, 17 rebounds), Jeffrey Tezo (20 points) and, Jalen Shirley (23 points including 8-for-22 on field goals) to give the visitors the win.
Not to be outdone, the Timberwolves received big games out of Evgeni Baukin who had a game-high 30 points in 40 minutes of action while Justin Sunga recorded 24 in defeat.
The big difference in the game was UBCO’s depth where they outscored the Timberwolves bench by a 34-10 margin.
The following night, the T-Wolves flipped the script coming away with an 11-point win of their own, the first of the Canada West season.
Baukin and Sunga led the way for the second straight night with 24 and 25 points respectively.
Second-year player Chris Ainsley also had the best game of his university career with the T-Wolves posting 17 points in a supporting role to go along with seven rebounds.
UNBC goes into the Christmas break with a record of 1-7 while the Heat drop to 3-5.
The next action for both Timberwolves basketball teams is January 10th and 11th when they visit the Fraser Valley Cascades and UBC Thunderbirds.
