City Council provides support for Santa Claus Parade

Prince George City Council provided unanimous support for the 2024 Santa Claus Parade at this week’s meeting.

A Notice of Motion brought forward by Councillor Tim Bennett had requested $1,750 from the Council Contingency Fund to help support the parade.

According to the letter attached to the Notice of Motion, the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is organizing the parade to help wrap up the annual Festival of Trees.

“It has been many years since a Santa Claus Parade was held in Prince George and the community is excited,” Bennet wrote.

The parade will be held on December 1st, and will go through Downtown Prince George before ending at Canada Games Plaza.

According to Bennett, the total cost of operating the parade is $7,800, most of which is being funded through sponsorships and registration costs for putting in a float.

The $1,750 would cover a level 2 safety plan and permit for the event, which would be payable to the City of Prince George.

In future years, Spirit of the North would be required to cover the cost of the safety plan, or could apply for support through the City of Prince George granting process.
