First ever Lheidli Classic taking place this weekend

Prince George will be the place to be for basketball this weekend as our city hosts the first Lheidli Classic.

“Our team is ready to welcome 11 men’s basketball teams from nearly every corner of the province and beyond,” said Lheidli Classic Committee Member Erica McLean.

“It’s super exciting, these teams come with a massive reputation for amazing competition, we’re just so excited to welcome them.”

McLean added it’s been a long conversation over a number of years to get to this point.

“I’ve had many conversations with different community members over the years saying we really need this, we’re in a good place, location geographically to host something like this, our city has great infrastructure to support this,” she said.

“It kind of started as a conversation in maybe January or February of this year, so it started with a Facebook post and then it got tons of traction.”

Games will take place at the John McInnis Centre Gym and at the Cedars Christian School Gym, with the first two games taking place at 6:00 pm on Friday.

McLean added a full schedule of games can be found on the Lheidli Classic Facebook Group.

There will also be a vendor market taking place as part of the tournament.
