The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has issued a 72-hour strike notice to Canada Post.
Its 52-thousand members can walk off the job as of Friday…..but the union hasn’t yet decided whether to take that action immediately.
CUPW Local 812 has 204 members encompassing, Mackenzie, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake and, Fraser Lake as well as Prince George.
Their decision, the union says, will depend on what happens at the bargaining table over the next few days…..adding the two sides remain far apart on many issues.
Canada Post’s last contract offer called for wage increases of 11.5 per cent over four years, protection of defined-benefit pensions for current employees, and improvements to job security and health coverage.
That proposal has been rejected by the union.
