Theatre NorthWest to host stage reading for Remembrance Day

A stage reading of Bluebirds will be at Theatre NorthWest for Remembrance Day.

The performance is about three nurses stationed in France during the Great War to care for wounded Canadian soldiers, each revealing more personal details to each other through letters to loved ones.

Katherine Trepanier, who plays Nurse Maggie says this was one of the first times for women to participate in this type of workforce.

“In their regular lives, they would’ve been expected to sort of carry on as wives and mothers,” says Trepanier.

“This was sort of a clear career path for women that they may not have experienced otherwise, and I think it really allowed women to feel like they were contributing to the world in a bigger way.”

The play looks to keep the memory and thought of what Remembrance Day is about throughout the day.

While a play isn’t typically attended for Remembrance Day, Sandra Clermont who plays Nurse Bab said it has way more reverence for the subject matter.

She added they encourage everyone to come and continue reflecting and honouring the people who gave their lives for our freedom.

The stage reading will be on Monday, November 11th, at 7:00 pm.
