The Prince George Adopt-A-Tree process will be no more as it will be replaced by a Tree Donation Program.
Council discussed the recommendation at this week’s meeting, noting the current process has not been successful or overly beneficial, only seeing a few trees planted per year in random locations.
Director of Civic Operations, Blake McIntosh says the tree planting would be a joint asset between the donor and City.
“The City does the maintenance, the horticultural stuff. If the tree failed to thrive and survive, I would believe that the City would be responsible for that replacement in the future.”
Donors would be notified when their tree is being planted by a Horticulturalist in an area identified by staff.
The cost for a tree is $1500, and the City said it allows the community to be involved in larger scale tree planting projects that make a positive impact.
More information about the Tree Donation Program can be found on the City’s website here.
