WHL:

The Prince George Cougars play their only game of the weekend tonight in Kamloops against the Blazers (6-7-1).

On Thursday, the Cougars acquired 18-year-old defenseman Fraser Leonard from the Calgary Hitmen in return for 18-year-old defenseman Drew Peterson and a 2025 sixth-round pick in the WHL Prospect’s Draft.

Leonard joins the Cougars after playing 59 games with the Hitmen and Saskatoon Blades, notching a total of nine points (four goals and five assists).

The (8-4-2-2) Cougars are in first place in the B.C. Division, two points ahead of the (8-3-1-1) Victoria Royals, who have three games in hand.

Toronto Maple Leafs 4 Seattle Kraken 1

William Nylander scored twice in the victory for Toronto who improves to 6-4-1.

Washington Capitals 6 Montreal Canadians 3

Edmonton Oilers 5 Nashville Predators 1

Leon Draisaitl led the way with two goals and one assist.

There are six games on the schedule tonight including a trio of Canadian teams in action.

Ottawa Senators (5-4-0) at New York Rangers (6-2-1)

Winnipeg Jets (9-1-0-0) at Columbus Blue Jackets (5-3-1)

New Jersey Devils (7-4-2) at Calgary Flames (5-4-1)

The next game for the Vancouver Canucks (4-2-3) is on Saturday when they take on the San Jose Sharks (3-7-2) in the Bay Area.

BCHL:

The (4-8-1-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (7-4-2) Victoria Grizzlies Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The (7-2-0-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the (3-4-0-1) Vancouver North West Hawks Saturday night at 6:30 and Sunday morning at 10:30 at Kin 1.

Cariboo is tied for first in the 8-team BC Elite Hockey League alongside the (7-2-0-1) Valley West Giants, a point ahead of the (7-3) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves start their Canada West men’s and women’s basketball season Friday night in Kelowna when they visit the UBC Okanagan Heat (5:00 and 7:00).

The UNBC home openers take to the court on Sunday against Thompson Rivers University of Kamloops starting with the women at 2:00 followed by the men at 4:00.

NBA:

The (1-4) Toronto Raptors host LeBron James and the (3-2) LA Lakers Friday night (4:30) from Scotiabank Arena.

PG High School Football:

The PG Bowl (North Zone High School Football Championship) will be played Friday night at 7:00 at Masich Place Stadium.

The game features the regular season champion College Heights Cougars against last year’s zone champs, the Nechako Valley Vikings.

NFL: (Week 9)

New York Jets 21 Houston Texans 13.

The Jets snapped their five-game losing streak.

CFL:

The CFL Division semi-finals take to the field Saturday.

The (9-9) B.C. Lions visit the (9-8-1) Saskatchewan Roughriders (3:30 PM) with the winner to play at the (11-7) Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the West Final on November 9th.

In the East, the (9-8-1) Ottawa Redblacks visit the (10-8) Toronto Argonauts (Saturday noon) with the winner to visit the (12-5-1) Montreal Alouettes on November 9th.

The 111th Grey Cup will be played on Sunday, November 17th in Vancouver.

Horse Racing

The 2024 Breeders Cup World Championships run today and tomorrow at Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego California.
