Access to the Ferguson Lake Nature Reserve will be unavailable for a 10-day period starting today (Monday).
It’s due to bridge repair work on Ferguson Lake Road that will last until October 30th resulting in a temporary disruption according to the City of Prince George.
The work is part of a larger project to install a permanent bridge at the Ferguson Creek crossing, enhancing infrastructure and long-term access for the area following damage caused by flooding back in May.
A temporary detour will be in place for residents, the City is asking to keep this route for local traffic only.
During the September 9th Council meeting, a report was presented outlining necessary repairs to Ferguson Lake Road following the damage. The City has allocated an additional $430,000 to the financial plan to fund these repairs.
To restore access quickly, a temporary prefabricated one-lane bridge was installed earlier in the year, providing access to Ferguson Lake’s recreational area and nearby residential properties.
The project will end up saving an estimated $440,000 compared to alternative open-channel culvert designs, while meeting environmental regulations for fish habitats.
