Conservative Candidate Wins in Prince George – North Cariboo

BC Conservative Sheldon Clare has been declared the new MLA of the Prince George – North Cariboo riding. Clare won with 10,849 [56.76%] votes, and still counting.

“I am incredibly grateful to all the people who supported me, and came out to voted for me in this campaign,” Clare says on his riding win.

“There’s a lot of things to do. I will want to be doing a transition plan with Coralee Oakes. Certainly, one of the big things I’m going to be screaming and yelling about is getting the Quesnel North-South Interconnector going. Getting doctors, and making sure that seniors are looked after. Education, and healthcare, of course. There’s so much on the table that needs to be dealt with.”

Former impudent, Coralee Oakes, an Independent, after winning in 2013 and 2017 as a BC Liberal, was gracious in defeat as the runner-up in the riding with 4,296 [21.78%] votes.

“I am incredibly proud of the campaign team,” Oakes says.

“We worked hard, and connected with lots of people. We got to put forward really important policies and focus on issues.”

Behind Oakes was BC NDP Denise Bardua with 3,323 [16.84%] votes, and BC Green candidate, Randy Thompson came in last with 848 [4.30%] votes.

The race was contested by four candidates:

  • BC Conservatives Sheldon Clare (11,262 l 57.08%)
  • Independent Coralee Oakes (4,296 l 21.78%)
