City of Prince George plant tulips for Holland liberation

The Prince George Cenotaph area will soon have tulips bloom to commemorate Holland’s liberation.

Bulbs were planted Saturday morning to mark the beginning of the 80th anniversary celebration of the liberation by Canadian soldiers.

Dutch Canadian Tulip Commemoration Committee Coordinator, Johanna Jenkins says planting these flowers have a lot of meaning.

“This has been a memory that the Dutch have always cherished, and many of our Canadian soldiers have lifetime friendships between here and Holland.” says Jenkins.

“It’s also been a gratitude from the Dutch that the Canadian soldiers arrived.”

Jenkins says they will hold another event in May when the tulips have bloomed.

The Dutch also celebrate the occasion every year with their saying being they will never forget the Canadian soldiers that liberated them.
