Fire crews are investigating a chemical leak at Cariboo Brewing.
Officials got the call just after 12:15, and were able to confirm an ammonia leak shortly afterwards.
“They had a valve break, and they isolated the main part of ammonia in the system, however there was some that escaped that is isolated in one room right now,” says Duty Chief Cliff Warner, “Crews are just preparing to enter to determine the nature of the break.”
No injuries have been reported, and Cariboo Brewing employees have been sent home for the day.
An adjacent school is being kept up-to-date with the situation, but it is believed the school and nearby homes will be unaffected.
For now, finding a source of ventilation is key.
“Ammonia in the atmosphere basically turns to vapour, so it will dissipate,” explained Warner, “We just have to manage how it dissipates to keep ourselves and the public safe.”
No injuries have been reported.
