The Prince George Fire Centre has announced Category 2 and 3 open fire prohibitions will be lifted tomorrow (Friday) at noon.
Category 2 open fires include burning material in one pile not exceeding two metres high and three metres wide, material concurrently in two piles each not exceeding two metres high and three metres wide, and stubble or grass in an area not exceeding 0.2 hectares.
Category 3 is the burning of material in one or more piles each not exceeding two metres high and three metres wide, material concurrently in three or more piles each not exceeding two metres high and three metres wide, one or more windrows, none of which exceed 200 metres in length and 15 metres wide, and stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares.
Anyone lighting a Category 3 open fire must have a burn registration number, engage in safe open burning practices when permitted, and be aware of conditions.
Before burning, ensure you’re properly prepared by establishing a fuel break, constantly monitoring the fire, and not burning if venting is poor or fair.
Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be issued a violation ticket for $1,150 and may be required to pay an administrative penalty of up to $10,000, or if convicted in court there could be fines of up to $100,000.
