WHL:

Prince George Cougars  5  Kelowna Rockets  2

On the same day he was named the 30th Captain in team history, Riley Heidt notched a goal and two assists.

His linemate, Terik Parascak, scored twice and added an assist as the Cougars scored four unanswered goals in the 3rd period to erase a 2-1 deficit.

Both Heidt and Parascak played their first game of the season for Prince George after being returned to junior this week from their NHL team.

The (3-1-1) Cougars are 2-1 on a five-game road trip that continues Friday night against the (1-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds and Saturday night against the (2-1) Portland Winterhawks.

The next home games for the Cougars will be Tuesday and Wednesday against Portland.

BCHL: 

The Prince George Spruce Kings have signed 19-year-old sniper Ethan Montroy.

The 19-year-old Montroy, who is from Ottawa, had a total of 86 points in 65 games in the Central Canadian Hockey League.

In another move, the Spruce Kings have acquired 19-year-old defenseman Erik Sollied  from the Nanaimo Clippers in exchange for future considerations.

Sollied has played 68 BCHL games over the past 3 seasons with Merritt and Nanaimo.

The (2-3) Spruce Kings host the (2-3) Surrey Eagles Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6 at the Kopar Memorial Arena.

BC Football Conference:

Prince George Kodiaks defensive back Peyton Briere is the BC Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Briere had three interceptions in the Kodiaks’ 23-21 victory over the Kamloops Broncos.

The Kodiaks complete their 3rd season in the BCFC when they visit Kamloops Saturday night at 6:00.

The Kodiaks are 2-7 while the Broncos are 1-8.

The two teams have split their first two meetings this year.

NFL: 

Week 5 of the NFL season starts tonight (Thursday at 5:15) with Tampa Bay at Atlanta in a battle of NFC South Division teams.

The Bucs are 3-1 while the Falcons sit 2-2.

CFL:

The B.C. Lions host the (4-9-1) Calgary Stampeders Friday night at 7:00.

With three games left in their regular season, the (7-8) Lions are 3rd in the West Division, a point behind the (7-7-1) Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Week 18 in the CFL begins Friday at 4 PM with (9-6) Winnipeg at (6-9) Hamilton.

The West-leading Blue Bombers have won seven straight while the Tiger-Cats are riding a 4-game winning streak.

The Lions final two games are at Saskatchewan on Oct 12th (4 PM) and home against East-leading Montreal on Oct 19th (4 PM).

Canada West Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves are home in the women’s division and on the road with the men this weekend in Canada West soccer.

The (1-7) UNBC women host the (5-1-3) Victoria Vikes Friday at noon and the (2-5-2) Mount Royal Cougars Sunday at noon.

The (1-9-2) UNBC men visit the (7-0-2) UBC Thunderbirds Friday night at 7:30 and Saturday night at 7:00 (with their final two games of the season at (1-8-1) Thompson Rivers Wolfpack on October 18th and 19th at 7 PM.
