A water use plan for the Nechako River has been proposed by the District of Vanderhoof.
Mayor Gerry Thiessen met with Premier Christy Clark yesterday and was quite pleased with the outcome.
“We were very encouraged she has promised to come up to Vanderhoof and the Nechako region to understand this issue even further.”
Thiessen will meet with Rio Tinto Alcan later today and would like both sides to move forward on the issue.
“We need to have some action, some concrete decision making on how do we get to an action that will allow people to know what will happen on the river and how is it going to be dealt with.”
40 days of flooding caused almost 1 million dollars in damage to homes, parks and farmers this spring.
Vanderhoof has been involved in three major floods over the past 9 years.
