After a Prince George teacher criticized the Province’s new student data management system, the School District is responding.
While trying to print a class list Glen Thielmann, a teacher at D.P. Todd Secondary, stumbled upon a detailed list of every student to attend the school.
The list included private data such as medical information and special education designations.
Despite the glitch, the District is confident that the system is secure.
“Both the Ministry of Education and the service provider have been informed and they are investigating the circumstances around the case” said District 57 Superintendent Brian Pepper. “MyEdBC does comply with all requirements outlined by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation.”
According to Pepper, the system was vetted prior to being implemented in the district.
“There have been privacy impact assessments completed” said Pepper. “That work has been reviewed by both the office of the Chief Information Officer and the office of the Privacy Commissioner.
The MyEdBC program cost the province $95 million.
Teachers continue to complain about glitches with the system.
