CN Centre sound system upgrades completed under budget

The City of Prince George says upgrades have been completed on the sound system at the CN Centre.

The work was done over the summer, with more than 900 hours of labor done by Sapphire Sound and McSquared System Design Group.

The new sound system brings enhanced audio quality, and new hardware, audio equipment and materials to the CN Centre.

It also has improved accessibility, and allows those using assistive listening devices to tune into 105.1 FM to hear announcements and music more clearly.

Prince George City Council approved $950,000 for the upgrade last year.

According to the City, the upgrades were completed on time and under budget, with final costs totaling approximately $700,000.

In 2019, it was determined the previous equipment, installed in the 1990s, had exceeded its technical and service lifetime.

The old system also presented challenges due to ongoing system failures, the lack of spare parts and replacement options.

More than 40 staff members were introduced to the new equipment.
