A weak and short-duration La Nina is being predicted for the next few months in the Prince George area according to Environment Canada.
The weather service says there is a 40% chance of above-normal temperatures for October, November and December.
As for how much snow or rain we might see, Meteorologist, Lisa Erven told MyPGNow.com that typically predicted more accurately on a daily or weekly basis.
“Precipitation forecasts, especially when we are talking on a seasonal scale doesn’t have a lot of skill to it as precipitation patterns are really tied to on what is happening on a day-to-day or week to week basis than month to month.”
“What I can say is that we are in a La Nina watch. The forecast is for La Nina conditions to emerge for the next couple of months – and continue over the northern hemisphere through winter.”
“It is being called a weak and short-duration La Nina, which sometimes has less conventional results on winter. But, generally speaking, during a La Nina winter, it does tip the scales to a cooler than normal fall and winter.”
After Tuesday, daily temperatures are expected to dip into the low teens with overnight lows in the single digits with rain and a mix of sun and cloud in the forecast.
The overnight hours are predicted to get as cool as minus two degrees.
