WHL:

A banner raising ceremony tonight (Friday), a guaranteed 50/50 jackpot of $65,000 for tomorrow night.

The Prince George Cougars begin their season at CN Centre hosting the Spokane Chiefs this evening at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00.

Some 4,000 plus tickets have been sold for opening night (with slightly fewer for the second half of the doubleheader).

In the CHL preseason rankings, the Cougars are listed 7th in the top 10.

The Medicine Hat Tigers are ranked first and the only other WHL team mentioned is the Kelowna Rockets at #10.

The Cats will be missing several of their top players who are at NHL camps, however, they did get 20-year-old Carlin Dezainde back from the Boston Bruins rookie camp.

BCHL: 

The Prince George Spruce Kings are on the road to begin their season with three games in as many days.

The Spruce Kings visit the Surrey Eagles tonight at 7:00, the Chilliwack Chiefs Saturday night at 6:00 and the Langley Rivermen Sunday afternoon at 2:30.

Canada West Soccer:

The (1-3) UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team will host the (1-3) Fraser Valley Cascades tonight at 6:00 and the (2-0-2) Trinity Western Spartans Sunday at noon at Masich Place.

On the men’s side in Canada West soccer, The (0-6-2) Timberwolves visit the (2-1-4) Mount Royal Cougars tonight (4 PM PT) and the (2-5) Saskatchewan Huskies (11 AM) on Sunday.

MLB:

LA Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani made baseball history becoming the first player with at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season.

Ohtani had three homers while going 6 for 6 with 10 RBIs in the Dodgers 20-4 playoff-clinching victory over the Miami Marlins.

The $700 million Japanese superstar now has 51 homers and 51 stolen bases with nine games remaining.

Toronto Blue Jays  4  Texas Rangers  0

The (73-80) Blue Jays, with just 9 games left in their season, visit the (75-78) Tampa Bay Rays in a 3-game series this weekend starting tonight (Friday 3:50 PM).

Toronto will close with six home games; Monday to Wednesday against Boston and Sept. 27th to 29th vs. Miami.

Seattle Mariners  3  New York Yankees  2  

The (78-75) Mariners visit the (73-80) Texas Rangers tonight (5:05).

Seattle is in second place in the AL West, 5 games behind the (83-70) Houston Astros.

NFL: (Start of Week 3)

New York Jets  24  New England Patriots  3

Aaron Rodgers completed 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns as the Jets improved to 2-1.

CFL:

There are a pair of games tonight (Friday) in the CFL to begin the 16th week of the season: (4-9) Hamilton at (7-6) Toronto (4:00) followed by (5-7-1) Saskatchewan at (4-8-1) Calgary (6:30).

The (7-7) BC Lions are off until Friday, September 27th at 7:30 PM when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Lions are tied with the (7-6) Winnipeg Blue Bombers for top spot in the West Division, however, Winnipeg has five games left and BC has just four remaining.

The Blue Bombers visit the Edmonton Elks Saturday at 4 pm.

BC Football Conference:

The (1-7) Prince George Kodiaks conclude their third season in the BCFC with a home and home against the (1-6) Kamloops Broncos: Saturday, September 28th at 6pm at Masich Place Stadium and Saturday, October 5th at 6pm in Kamloops.
