Book It: Raise a Reader on Wednesday

Wednesday is Raise a Reader day in Prince George.

Starting at 7am, volunteers from all around the city will be out on the street wearing bright orange t-shirts and selling newspapers with the proceeds going towards the national Raise a Reader campaign.

“Although it is Canada-Wide, all the funds raised for Raise a Reader stay in the community in which they’re raised” said Andrea Palmer with the Prince George Public Library. “So all the money donated… will stay in Prince George and go to help local literacy initiatives.”

Residents can purchase a special edition of the Prince George Citizen newspaper by donation.

“If you’ve got change in your ashtray, we’re happy.” said Palmer. “Whatever you can give, it doesn’t have to be a huge amount. We’re just really excited to raise awareness around literacy.”

Prince George citizens have donated almost three $300,000 to raise a reader since 2007.
