The BC government has denied the District of Vanderhoof’s request for disaster relief after it was hit by flooding this year.
The town will meet with Premier Christy Clark and Rio Tinto Alcan tomorrow.
Mayor Gerry Thiessen says they were told to go through insurance but that was shot down by brokers.
“We talked to insurance companies asking them if they could cover this and they said no it can’t.”
Thiessen believes major flooding has been taking place too often for a community of it’s size.
“We’ve had three significant flooding events in the last nine years and it’s difficult for a community such as us along the Nechako River.”
The money would have gone towards assisting residents affected by flooding.
40 days of flooding caused almost 1 million dollars in damage to homes, parks and farms.
