A new three year funding model for community visitor centres including Prince George has been approved by Destination BC.
Tourism PG CEO, Erica Hummel says the extra 23 thousand they receive from Destination BC stabilizes their operation.
“What this means for us is that it’s stable and are able to plan three years out and depend on the money which will go towards subsidizing staff for the visitor centre.”
The Tourism sector has also become an economic driver in Prince George as well.
“We are starting to see more roles in diversifying the economy and it’s important for jobs not just coming out of university but also developing life skills.”
The strategy includes base funding of 10 thousand dollars annually for small and rural visitor centres like Valemount and McBride as well as an innovation fund for 2016.
