Prince George City Councillor Kyle Sampson and PG Native Friendship Centre Executive Director Barbara Ward-Burkitt were recipients of the King Charles III Coronation Medal this afternoon (Tuesday).
According to the province, the medal is given to people “who have made significant contributions to British Columbia or to a particular region or community in the province or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to B.C.”
“I extend my sincere congratulations to the recipients of The King Charles III Coronation Medal,” said Premier David Eby. “This distinguished honour recognizes your dedication, unwavering commitment and the profound impact you have made on your communities and our province. It is a testament to the respect and admiration you have earned.”
Sampson is in his second term as a Prince George City Councillor and serves on various other boards in the community, including as the Vice-Chair of the Regional Hospital District.
He was also the main organizer behind Cariboo Rocks the North, the Best Damn Music Festival, and numerous public events that were held during the pandemic.
Ward-Burkitt has been involved with the Friendship Centre since 1972, where she has developed many programs and supports to help those in the community who need it most.
She has been on the Minister’s Advisory Council on Indigenous Women since 2014, chairing it since 2019.
