Huble Homestead is closing out its summer schedule with the annual Potato Festival on Sunday and Monday (August 31st and September 1st).
“The Huble family grew lots of potatoes when they lived there more than 100 years ago,” Huble Homestead Executive Director Krystal Leason told My PG Now. “We have grown nine varieties of heirloom potatoes all season long. Those will be on sale on the weekend.”
There will be plenty of potato-themed games and activities, including potato sack races, hot potato, and a ‘dress your spud’ contest.
Non-potato related heritage demonstrations, including the treadle pole lathe, cheese making, ice cream, and butter making will also be held on both days.
Leason said Sunday will feature sourdough bread and soap making, Monday will offer pickle making and natural remedies.
The festival marks the end of Huble Homestead’s summer season, after which the historical site will only be open on weekends from 10:00 – 5:00 until Thanksgiving.
“We will see between 500 and 800 people,” Leason added. “About 400 a day, busy but not too busy.”
The festival will run from 10:30 – 4:00 on Sunday and Monday, you can learn more about it here.
Registration for Huble’s next event, an adult-only 80’s themed murder mystery called Homicide on the Homestead, is also now open.
