CN, CPKC back at work; displeased with national board ruling

Canada’s two major railways are getting back to work today (Monday), as more than 93-hundred members of the Teamsters Union return to their jobs at Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Kansas City.

They’re obeying the Canada Industrial Relations Board, which imposed binding arbitration and ordered the workers back to their jobs under the rules of their last contract.

But they’re not happy.

Teamsters Union President Paul Boucher said they’ll appeal the order in the courts, claiming it sets a dangerous precedent.

Boucher added it shows companies can simply refuse to negotiate with their workers, allow a bit of economic harm to occur, then wait for the federal government to ride to their rescue.
