UNBC unveils new gym floor featuring Indigenous Timberwolves logo

UNBC Timberwolves home basketball games are going to have a new, fresh look this season and beyond.

The university showed off the newly refurbished gym floor at the Northern Sports Centre today (Friday), featuring the team’s Indigenous logo designed by Gitxsan artist and UNBC alumnus Trevor Angus.

The floor is located in Gym 2, which will now be known as the Brownridge Court as a part of a six-year sponsorship agreement with Brownridge Insurance.

The court sidelines feature the words “En Cha Huna,” which means “respecting all forms of life” in Dakelh.

“It is a major step for us as a major institution to really showcase who we are,” UNBC President Dr. Geoff Payne said.

Payne was proud that Angus went “full circle” from a student to a creative partner, and that his art was able to get this level of permanent recognition from the school.

“We should all be embracing [Truth and Reconciliation],” he added. “If we can be inspiring and have others say ‘look what UNBC is doing, we want to do that as well,’ I think that is really important. I am proud of that.”
