Wildfire activity in the Prince George Fire Centre continues to heat up as 24 new starts were reported from the start of the weekend until today, half of which, are out of control.
Of the remaining dozen, three are being held, six are under control and three have been called out.
Fire Information Officer, Adam Nicholas told MyPGNow.com that while the Peace Region remains the most active zone, other areas are catching up.
“We still have several holdover fires in the northeastern section of the fire centre as well as the large number of small fires in the Robson Valley/Prince George zone. There has also been an uptick in the VanJam Fire Zone where crews are responding to all three of those areas.”
“In the Peace River Regional District, four fires are out of control, nine are being held and eight are under control.”
The Trembleur Lake wildfire northwest of Fort Saint James remains out of control at 3.8 hectares in size. Initial attack crews and aircraft remain on scene.
403 wildfires have occurred within the Prince George Fire Centre since April 1st, burning 744,776 hectares.
74% of all blazes this year in our area have been lightning-caused.
Province-wide, 1,369 blazes are burning resulting in 941,246 hectares that have been ignited.
