The River Forecast Centre has updated it’s forecast for potential flooding, as monitoring continues.
The Province said based on preliminary modelling of potential worst-case scenario, estimated waterflows are expected to be lower than typical spring snowmelt peak levels from Lillooet to Hope.
As for the Farwell Canyon Bridge and the confluence of the Chilcotin River peak water flows would still be above normal.
They said helicopters are surveying the area and specialists moving throughout the area, with BC Wildfire Service putting a Notice to Airmen in place, and any aircraft not associated with the landslide response including unmanned aerial vehicles are illegal.
It’s still uncertain when and how the water pooling will re-enter the river, but could happen at any time, and there remains the potential risk of woody debris to pass into the Chilcotin and Fraser River.
People are advised to stay away from both rivers, and follow directions from local governments and First Nations.
