Olympics:

26-year-old Sophiane Methot of Varennes, Quebec won a bronze medal today (Friday) in trampoline gymnastics at the Olympics.

It is Canada’s 9th medal in Paris (three gold, two silver, four bronze).

Swimmer Summer McIntosh of Toronto has three medals, two gold and a silver at the  Olympics.

The 17-year-old McIntosh won the women’s 200-metre butterfly Thursday and shortly after was part of the Canadian team that finished 4th in the (4 x 200-metre) freestyle relay final.

Earlier, she captured gold in the 400-metre individual medley (IM) and a silver in the 400 freestyle.

Her next event is the 200-metre individual medley which concludes on the weekend.

The 3-0 Canadian men’s Olympic basketball team beat Spain today 88-85 in a tune-up for the quarterfinals.

The Canadian women’s Olympic soccer team will play Germany in the quarterfinals
Saturday (10 AM PT).

CFL:  (Week 9)

Winnipeg Blue Bombers  25  B.C. Lions  0

The Lions slip to 5-3 with their next game Sunday, August 11th in Edmonton.

Friday Night Football in the CFL has (6-1) Montreal at (2-5) Hamilton (4:30).

Former B.C. Lions QB Nathan Rourke has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

The 26-year-old Rourke appears to be 4th on the Falcons quarterback depth chart.

BCFC:

The (1-1) Prince George Kodiaks visit the (0-1) Langley Rams Saturday at 4 PM in the
BC Football Conference.

The Kodiaks have their next home game on August 10th at 6 PM against the Valley Huskers.

Congratulations to Myron Brown for being named the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2.

Brown had a stellar day as a kick returner, highlighted by a 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown – the first in Kodiaks history.
