Licence plates, housing, and garbage bins: Sept. 14 PG Council Preview

The City will be taking a closer look at a proposed Multi-Family and Seniors Housing Incentive Program at tonight’s council meeting.

A housing needs and demands study from earlier this year says Prince George’s population is ageing and household sizes are shrinking, while the majority of housing is designed for large families.

The report to council will highlight a couple different options, including developing senior-oriented housing, and a wider variety of housing types.

One of the listed key goals is to develop existing infrastructure to reduce the City’s ongoing maintenance costs.

Beyond that, Council will look at licence plate recognition software while debating creating a 3-hour free parking zone downtown.

The Prince George Gymnastics club will make a case for funds to heat their building after renovating the interiors, and Mayor Hall will bring forward reports looking at eliminating fees for requesting a smaller city garbage bin, and bringing back the voluntary water metering program.

The meeting starts at 6:00 at Council Chambers.
