Olympics:
Swimmer Summer McIntosh of Toronto has her second gold and third overall medal at the Paris Olympics.
The 17-year-old McIntosh won the women’s 200-metre butterfly today (Thursday) and shortly after was part of the Canadian team that finished 4th in the (4 x 200-metre) freestyle relay final.
Earlier, she captured gold in the 400-metre individual medley (IM) and a silver in the 400 freestyle.
Her next event will be the 200-metre individual medley.
Canada now has 8 medals at the Olympics, three gold, two silver and three bronze.

The Canadian women’s Olympic soccer team beat Colombia 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals against Germany Saturday (10 AM PT).
It was the third consecutive victory for the defending gold medalists, with the only goal coming in the 62nd minute, (from Vanessa Gilles, who tallied the game-winner for the second straight game).
Canada finished second in its group because FIFA deducted six points after three coaches were suspended for their role in the drone spying scandal.

Ilya Kharun is the first Canadian man to win an Olympic swimming medal in 12 years.
The Montreal born Kharun earned bronze in the 200-metre butterfly.

The 2-0 Canadian men’s Olympic basketball team plays Spain on Friday (8:15 a.m. PT) but regardless of a win or a loss they have qualified for the quarterfinals.

BCFC:
Myron Brown of the Prince George Kodiaks is the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Brown racked up 117 yards on three kick returns, highlighted by a 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 45-25 loss to the Westshore Rebels in Langford.
It was the first kick return for a TD in Kodiaks history.
Congratulations to Myron Brown for being named the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 2.
Brown had a stellar day as a kick returner, highlighted by a 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown – the first in Kodiaks history.

The (1-1) PG Kodiaks visit the (0-1) Langley Rams Saturday at 4 PM in the
BC Football Conference.
The Kodiaks have their next home game on August 10th at 6 PM against the Valley Huskers.

The 9th week of the CFL season starts tonight (Thursday 5:30) with the (5-2) B.C. Lions at the (2-6) Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The Lions are tied with (5-2) Saskatchewan for top spot in the West Division.

Hockey:
Sniper Cameron Schmidt of Prince George, who plays for the Vancouver Giants, is one of eight WHL players selected to represent Hockey Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The Under-18 tournament starts on Monday and will be played until Saturday, August 10th in Edmonton.
