Police in Fort St. John arrested a suspect following a high-speed pursuit in the Cecil Lake area, where a female was in distress.
Just after 7:30 pm on Sunday, the RCMP received several reports of a passenger potentially being held against her will in a vehicle with a young baby inside.
Officers attended the area and located a vehicle matching the description, attempting a traffic stop.
A short time later, the driver of the suspect’s vehicle collided with the police cruiser and then fled the scene.
According to police, the vehicle eventually came to a stop in a field in the Rose Prairie/Cecil Lake Road area.
RCMP later determined the woman was a partner to the driver – her and the baby were later transported to hospital as a precaution.
The driver was arrested and later released from custody. Several charges including Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from Police are being forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.
The driver will appear in court September 9th.
